Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4×4 Response (GW4x4R) is delighted to announce that, following a recent campaign to raise funds, it has reached the £18,000 donation target required to enable the organisation to roll-out new digital network radios to its volunteer controllers and response drivers.
Commenting for GW4x4R, chairman Philip Dews says: “Our sincere thanks go to those individuals and organisations, including Gloucestershire NHS Trust who, thanks to their kind and generous donations have made updating our equipment possible.”.
The need for an updated communications network for GW4x4R was acknowledged at the end of 2018 when, following the organisation’s successful recruitment drive, additional volunteers joined the team and the future of its existing VHF radio network was in doubt.
The new digital-based communications network will not only provide better communication between team members, but also enable our controllers to easily locate response drivers using the in-built mapping software and get them to the next, nearest or most convenient job, something that will ensure we can get to as many call-outs as possible.
“Whilst we are delighted and overwhelmed with the donations received, our fundraising efforts don’t stop and, as we look forward to the Spring and Summer months, our volunteers will be busying themselves at events including the Gloucestershire Vintage & Country Extravaganza, Cotswold Show and the 2000 Trees Festival to name a few.” says Philip.
He goes on to say that there are numerous ways in which people can support GW4x4R, all of which are a real benefit to the organisation and some that won’t even cost you a penny.
